2013 Bowls Singles Final

Saturday afternoon saw the playing of the delayed 2013 bowls singles final between Jon Palser and Joe Cross.

Members watching saw a very high quality final between skilled players. Initially Joe took a good lead, but this was clawed back.

Jon Palser finally pulled the match back to 20 all and then gained the last two points to triumph at 22 – 20.

Green Opening Saturday 5th April

Saturday saw the President formally send out the first bowl to formally open the green for the season. This was followed by an initial bowl by members present with Jon Palser winning the bottle of champagne for neared bowl to the far ditch. The 2013 delayed singles final was then played and some social bowling.

2013 Bowls Championship Doubles Final

This morning Doug Shearer and David Warwick beat Eddie Oates and Rod Sugden 22-20 in the delayed final to last year’s Bowls Championship.

David, Eddie, Doug, and Rod locked in mortal combat.
A quick glance at the handicaps suggests these are four of the Club’s better players and this was borne out by some outstanding woods from each finalist and a close, enjoyable match for the spectators.
David and Doug drew first blood but fell behind at 5-4 before establishing leads of 12-6 and 15-8. Eddie and Rod then put four strong ends together, including a 3 and a 4, to nudge themselves in front at 17-15. David and Doug recovered quickly from this setback and, with Doug now going first, got the match levelled at 19 across. Eddie and Rod went straight back into the lead but David and Doug ultimately won with two good ends at the last.

Entries for Future Club Competitions

At its recent meeting Council were concerned at the number of people in Club Competitions who had not paid the entrance fee and the occasional difficulty in collection of the money after such an entrant had lost.

It was agreed that we should provide small envelopes for members to use to put the money in the tin at the time of entry.

These envelopes will be used as the mechanism for the competition draw, so that any person who has not paid will be entered in the draw
