Presidents Day 2022

This year’s Presidents Day will happen on the 9th of July starting at 12:30pm. It will feature the usual Bowls, Snooker, Dominoes & Buffet. Once again in parallel will be the Ladies Lunch held in St Annes for partners of club members. The signup details for both are on the main club noticeboard.

In the evening following Presidents Day, we will once again be having the After Party for members and their guests. This will feature some guest entertainment and the usual socialising.

What’s Happening @ The District Club

Since re-opening, we have been pleased to see so many members making use of the club once again. Following our first council meeting after re-opening, we have a few bits of news.

Club Competitions

The Barker Bleasdale – We are continuing from where we left off to get the competition completed. Ian McLay has taken over the running of this for and will be contacting those still left in the competition.

Bowls Singles & Doubles – An entry list will be going up in the club or email the social committee to enter. If you are entering the doubles then please confirm with your partner before entering. The first round of the singles will be a round-ribbon with progression dependant on aggregate. For the doubles, it will be a straight knockout. All first-round games must be played by 5th September when the bowling green will be shut for 2 weeks. On reopening each round must be played within 2 weeks.

Open Bowls Competition – Peter Fielding is organising an open bowls event for Wednesday nights. Everybody who turns up will play. Please arrive by 6:30pm on Wednesday nights (starting 5th August) if you wish to join in.

Events

There will be 3 events later in the year (at the moment, situation dependant). Firstly we will be having a social event at the district club instead of the bowls dinner (all members welcome)

Secondly, we will be using the AGM as a social event

Thirdly we will be holding the Xmas draw and draw night.

All dates to be confirmed. Further events as we can arrange them.

Coronavirus

Note to all Members
18th MARCH 2020

Coronavirus

We are beginning to receive more definite advice, particularly instructions as to how Clubs such as ourselves should handle the present situation.

People are being advised to avoid social venues for a period of at least 12 weeks because of the gathering together of people. We do not have to close the Club and, given the way the Club is used, with one or two playing snooker or something similar at a time members can continue to use the club at their own risk for snooker and social bowls. We would expect members to follow basic guidelines with an emphasis on handwashing and physical distance. Members over 70 need to be aware of specific government instructions for their age group.

As for scheduled club events, these will be postponed until such time as the current guidance is relaxed and it is appropriate for us once again to have larger-scale functions within the club.

There are a number of points to consider.

1. It may be difficult to keep milk and such like continuously available.
2. The Ladies Bridge Club has closed for at least a month
3. The BCGBA has announced that all leagues and competition under its authority are suspended.
4. I have no information at the moment about the snooker league but would be surprised if it continues at the present.

I am sorry to have to write in this way but am sure you all understand the need.

Regards
District Club Council
